Rotary Club of Nigdi has proved over the last 25 years that it is a Club with a mission and any task is not impossible. On 13th October, 2017 the Past Presidents of Rotary Club of Nigdi who have served the Club in the previous years, came together and shared their projects carried out during their tenure. The past presidents to name a few are Rtn Dr Shubhangi Kotari, Rtn Ranu Singhania, Rtn Shekhar Zilpelwar, Rtn Ravi Rajapuirkar, Rtn Shrikrishna Karkare and Rtn Sunil Jejurikar. On this occasion the beneficiaries were also invited to give their feedback on the benefits that were received and the effects on the entire village and community.
The past projects have changed the lives of several families over the years and beneficiaries have increased. Beneficiaries present were Shri Raundra Bapusaheb Shivman, Principal, Adivasi Ashram Shala Wadeshwar, Shri Baburao Adivle Sarpanch from Bhoire Village, Vasudev Likhmale, from Bhoire Zilla Parishad School, Shri Gyaneshwar Dalvi, Principal from Sarubai Dalvi Junior College Pawna Nagar. From Saburdi Gram Sevika Ms Meera, Sarpanch Triveni Gopale Vice Sarpanch Pandhari Nath Gaikwad. All expressed their sincere gratitude to the Presidents and Service Directors.
Rtn Shrikrishna Karkare, Managing Director of Enpro Industries Private Limited said that "the past few years have proved to be a Golden Era for the Rotary Club of Nigdi- as whatever was conceptualized became a reality and tasks that seemed impossible became facts and reality only because RCN had inducted and involved young members whom he called "Social Entreprenuers" who having the technical skills and being professionals in their own right, had the grit and determination to carry out impossible projects and reach out to distant villages. These members to name a few are Rtn Vijay Kalbhor, Rtn Harbinder Dulat, Rtn Suhas Dhamle, Rtn Ankaji Patil, Rtn Jagmohan Singh Bhurji , Rtn GurudeepSingh Bhogal, who found time from their busy professional lives and reached out to villages like Saburdi, a village 68 kms away from Pune, 35 kms from Rajgurunagar, Ashram Shala Wadeshwar, Bhoire a place surrounded by Hills without any source of water where before making toilets a water tank was required for providing Drinking water to families.
Shrikrishna Karkare also said that the Government has made a law where Corporates are required to set aside 2% of the average of last three year profits and donate under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and due to this Corporates have willingly come forward and contributed for Several Projects in distant rural areas where even vehicles cannot go. Corporates now have faith in Rotary to execute their Social responsibilities. Runathon a Half Marathon event held by RCNigdi in the Month of December each year collects CSR funds for several Social endeavours over the past years.
Rotary Club of Nigdi has focused on Water, Sanitation and Education and Highlights of projects done in last five years under Mission Happy Schools where over 7 schools have been covered.
- Adivasi Ashram Shala Wadeshwar: Science Lab 6 tables, Hand wash Units, Library with Books, Tree Plantation, where Class V to X students are entrusted with 5 trees each to look after, Gender Specific Toilets for Girls and Boys, ड्रेनेज लाईन, गावासाठी इरीगेशन, Incinerators for Sanitary Napkins, school eligible for ISO certification.
- Bhoire Village Bore well, Submersible pumps, 1.2 km pipeline from hill to home of Villagers with taps, beneficiaries 400 students + 300 families
- Saburdi Village Gender Specific Toilets, Primary Health Center Repaired, cost 6.35 Lacs, Jhakalwadi : Desilting of Well, Solar Pumps, Solar Panels, 20000 liter water tank, Funds from Enpro Industries Pvt Ltd, Panchayat Samiti and Rotary Club of Nigdi 500 plus beneficiaries
- Pawna Nagar Junior College: 1500 Sq feet pipeline, 3000 liter water tank with stand, Nigade School Computer lab with contribution from Rtn Usha Rangarajan Architect.
On this occasion Dr Shubhangi Kothari also mentioned that -Education brings change, and future development is brought about by education, Happy Schools Happy Villages mission has reached several rural areas due to Rotary efforts
